Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Design, Layout and Colour Scheme

I have tried to keep a noticeable similar theme between all three of my final products to make them more identifiable to my audience. For the digipak, I just used a smaller crop of my magazine advert so that they are identical apart from the fact that the magazine advert has more information on it, this creates a clear link between the two. The digipak itself I tried to keep the colour scheme the same throughout, I think this was quite successful. I liked the simplicity look and that it wasn't over complicated with loads of things going on, I felt like it made the artist stand out more. This makes them easily identifiable to the audience as they are recognisable due to their consistency. I am happy with the way my digipak and magazine advert turned out. They both follow some conventions such as big and bold text, but it challenges others for example the background in mine is plain rather than an outside location.

Mise En Scene

Settings and props: In my music video I shot in various locations. To try and link my music video locations to the digipak I used a photograph from one of the locations I shot at for the inside cover of my digipak. I changed the photograph to black and white as I didn't want any bright blue's from the picture standing out effecting the colour scheme I had going on. By it being black and white it was still simple and went with the rest of it. There was no props used in my magazine advert or digipak as I didn't want it taking the focus away from the artist.

Costume, hair and makeup: In the music video, for the clips where the artist isn't singing, she has the same hairstyle and makeup as the magazine advert and digipak. This creates a clear link between the two as she looks the same.

Facial expression and body language: In the magazine and digipak the artist doesn't really show any emotion as her expression is quite muted. This is in comparison to the music video where the artist is smiling and laughing a lot. Her facial expressions and body language in the music video shows that she is very happy and that she is enjoying herself.

Lighting and colour: In the magazine advert and digipak the lighting is quite bright and the colour is quite bold against it. In the music video there is lot's of different lighting as there was lot of different locations. For example, in the performance section which was filmed indoors I used proper studio lights and in my other indoor shots I used artificial light. Where I was shooting outside I used natural daylight, which in some cases was brighter on different days, I also shot at night outside so there the lighting was darker.

Arrangement of elements in the frame: In my digipak and magazine advert, the artist is in the centre, this follows through in my video as I tried to keep all the cast in the centre of the screen when filming so they would be the main focus.
