Trip Hop

Trip Hop is a subgenre of electronic music that originated in the early 1990s in Bristol. Vocals are often female and feature characteristics of R&B, jazz and rock singing styles. It is known for it's melancholy sound. Artists include Gorillaz and Dido.

Indie Pop

Indie Pop is a subgenre of alternative rock that originated in the late 1970s. It is more melodic, less abrasive and relatively angst free compared to indie rock. Artists include Lana Del Rey, Birdy, Lykke Li, Mazzy Star and Mø.

 

Baroque Pop

Baroque Pop is a subgenre of pop rock that emerged in the 1960s. It fuses classical music, orchestral pop, rock and baroque music. Artists include Lana Del Rey, The Beatles and The Kinks.

Dream Pop

Dream Pop is a subgenre of alternative rock that developed in the 1980s. It tends to focus on textures, moods and vocals are generally breathy. Artists include Lana Del Rey, Purity Ring and The XX.

Alternative Rock

Alternative Rock is a genre of rock music that emerged in the 1980s. The word 'alternative' refers to the genres distinction from mainstream rock music. It has many subgenres including dream pop, indie pop, neo-psychedelia and shoegazing.
